Film Festival

Last night, D and me went to the Banff Mountain Film Festival with some friends. Was basically a whole bunch of short films of people doing adventure sports.

D has been banned from ever kayaking or climbing again. Cross Country Snowboarding he can do. Scooch away baby.

I was not really sure what I was in for but it was great night. Some people are bloody crazy and amazing.

Especially Ueli Steck. He literally runs up mountains.

I must admit though that I couldn't watch the cavers when they were squeezing through tight spots like this.

It made my stomach turn. I always had a fear of getting stuck in things as a kid and used to have nightmares about it. Each to their own I suppose.

Anywho, I had no idea what to wear to such and event and dressed in a frantic running late mode as it was so of course found myself far too overdressed for the cool dude surfer type adventure movie goers.

No pics were taken but this is what I wore:

Skirt worn the other way around

Hmm.... notice a trend in my wardrobe??

Vamp Vagabond

You may have remembered that I mentioned that I have suddenly obtained myself a hectic social life. Where it came from nobody knows. Hopefully it will leave with the month of August (which I am not wishing away FYI).

Anyway, as part of this new found socialisation, I somehow got myself invited to a Vamp party at the Deen (awful awful club where I feel one hundred years old, need to be very very drunk just to tolerate and where it is impossible to tell when one song ends and another starts).

What a Vamp party was, I did not know, however it was free entry, on Friday 13th and was for a good cause is support of recently-had-dreadful-break-up friend who wanted to have a girls night.

We were instructed that we had to wear black which for me was a challenge as I hate to be dictated too about what to wear and, probably in retaliation to my mother, do not own a lot of club appropriate black attire. This is what I ended up with.

I just couldn't do the all black thing.

I bought these tights ages ago after being inspired by Hayley's post. They have been sitting in my draw  waiting for me to get some guts to take them out on the town. Not sure I can translate these into everyday wear but they are fabulous for such an occasion. They did manage to save us from looking like a pack of goths walking around Northbridge to and from the Deen.

Some last minute accessorising. The little bird inside the cage actually swings and the hatch actually opens!!

I am the shitz no?

Vest - Lucette

Anyway the party was AWFUL. I am not even sure what it was but I have an inkling it was some sort of advertising event, luring us in with the premise of a party and free cocktails. All I saw was some sort of fashion show with models walking down the runway in poorly made cocktail dresses holding skulls  two built guys talking about their event "So you think you can strip"?? and glassies walking around in Scream Masks (accident waiting to happen much!!). We ended up having our free drink, using the loo (which was surprisingly clean) and hoofing it up the road to the old fogies pub and dancing like maniacs until three in the morning. Best thing was I amazingly decided to stop drinking around midnight and was dead sober by the time my head hit the pillow. Hello hangover free Saturday.

Oh and a guy showed us his arse. He has a W tattooed on each cheek. In addition, his crotch said "Please take a seat ". Charming. L, perhaps remember this next time you ask someone about their tat. Haha.

Then on Saturday night, I grooved up the dance floor with the rentals at my friend H's 40th birthday party. I still remember H's 30th. I had an crimped hair and discovered West Coast Coolers. It was an 80's party. I was 15. Enough said.

No photos of my outfit due to my complete inability to get ready to go out without rushing around like a lunatic and being too late to take pics. I wore this though:

Dress - Style Stalker
With my TB booties, black tights a side of Espresso Martini cocktail on the hem after an ill fated accident (dev-vo)

Oh, H just upload this on Facebook:

Mum and me on the dance floor. I did not go to bed sober this night and have no idea what sort of emu inspired dance I am doing here. I do remember trying to teach mum how to black dance but she somehow managed to turn it into The Hussle, so we just boogied away to bet of our own drums.

Note: A at 6 foot 8 was just too tall to crop out of the pic. Dance hard A. Thanks for the great party :-)

Anyway, i think that is all. Thank for reading.

Mamma Mia Monotony

So maybe I went to see Mamma Mia again. And Maybe I wore the same thing I did the last time I went. Went with my mamma and had a blast. It was just as fun the second time around.

Maybe I had too much to drink and too little to eat and am a little tipsy right now. Water and plain rice crackers are on the menu. TGIF tomorrow!!

At least I took pics of my outfit this time. Ta da...

I was losing the light rapidly.

Not sure what inspired a back shot. Shows off my lovely swimmers tan. Ok so this is about a million times better than it was in summer. Even strangers on the street comment on my tan in the summer.

And yes it was cold so I wore a covering and even attempted accessorising. The necklace lasted about two minutes into Honey Honey.

Not sure what this pose it. I also apologise for the state of my room!! Ok so maybe I don't, but if you came over I would at least shut the door. There is actually a very complicated system going on here or there was until Dad called and insisted I return his white laundry basket. The contents are now in bed with me.

Dress - Rodarte for Target

Saturday Sillys Style

To perform the below tasks, I had to wear something.

A few weeks ago, I got it in my head that I just had to have myself a long black skirt. Being short I know it is a big no no but whatever, embrace the frump I say. Now, a long black skirt is not as easy to find as you would think. I tried all the usual suspects and the closest I could find was a long dress from Supre, but it was thin and clingy and made me feel the size of a house (as only Supre can). I asked for suggestions, I searched online but it was to no avail.

Then last Saturday, I walked past the Good Sammy's. As I past, I had a thought. What about looking there? I literally walked straight to the skirt rack and picked up a long black skirt in my size for $4. It is Stitches brand, so decent quality and although it has a old lady style split at the front, I just wear it the wrong way around.

So with my new skirt, I decided this morning I would create an outfit.

At first, I decided to take my Funkis clogs and red socks for a spin ...

... but this looked wrong. The grunge (??) aesthetic of the top and skirt and the "clog" (??) aesthetic of the socks and clogs, didn't collaborate well ...

... so I decided to play it safe and add my black boots. Oh and a belt as I decided the top was too baggy for the skirt but couldn't be bothered changing my top ...

... I wasn't feeling this either. So I changed my boots and added a scarf as it is chilly here.

Love these boots!

Anywho ... after all that, I decided I hated the whole outfit but I was tired of the whole thing and couldn't be bothered changing again and it was already midday and I had many things to do, so I left the house in it. I said I had to wear something, not that it had to look good.

Skirt - Stitches
Long Sleeve Top - Tempt
Tank - MinkPink
Clogs - Funkis
Socks - ??
Black Boots - Tony Bianco
Red Boots - Soles by Nude Footwear
Scarf - Gift from India

PS. I apologise for the not-centred pics in the middle, blogger is misbehaving and randomly not centering a few of my photos for some reason. If anyone knows why, please explain. Thanks

A House becomes a Home

On Saturday, the rentals and I helped my grandmother move house. She has lived in her old house in excess of 25 years and it was so strange that after only 8 hours the new house feels like her home. It is a gorgeous hundred year old house - so much nicer than the knock-down job 70's house she has just sold.

I wore this. Ever so appropriate huh:

Listening to some Austen.

New Boots. Love Em :-)

Cotton On Cardigan
Jeanswest Tee
Sportsgirl Shorts
Sportscraft Belt
Random Tights
Tony Bianco Boots
Billabong Bag

I had never worn shorts and tights before until this day. Outfit was constructed mainly as I wanted to wear and show off my new boots and wanted to wear clothes I didn't care too much about if they got dirty or ruined. I really liked the look. The shorts are probably two sizes too big but I managed to get a paperbag waste effect with the belt. The photos don't really do them justice, but I think the look is also rather flattering.

Now I am obsessed with shorts. A few I have my eye on lately are. Thoughts?

Birthday Bash-Up - Mamma Mia

Wow, I have not updated for a while. Sorry. I have been feeling under the weather of late. Not sure what is wrong but I have been hit with an overwhelming desire to stay in bed forever, with the lights off and either listen to Jane Austen audiobooks or watch Meryl Streep movies. I think my “so used to being unhealthy body that is now not unhealthy” is fighting against the flu. It is doing okay apart from my now six day long head ache and sporadic coughing attacks. Fun fact about Fi. Fi does not cough like a normal person. Fi barks like a dog or a seal depending on the severity. Fi sounds like a lung ward. Fi does not know any different. It is very funny when new people meet my cough. Why am I talking in the third person? I don’t know. Brain is foggy, must move on.

Anywho, I have lots of outfit photos to upload and stories to tell but should probably not bombard you with them all at once.

I am finally free from the dogs from hell (or the “delightful little angels” if you are talking to their owners) and back in my own place. I was so relieved to be rid of them I spent the night I left carrying around friend K’s doggie Snap who I normally just pat hello and leave alone as Snap himself is not always well behaved. The two bottles of champagne I consumed on 4.5 hours sleep probably helped my mood that night though.

So, where did I leave off?

Hmmm, Friday night was my birthday night. L and I went to the theatre. Aka - to see Mamma Mia. Pre-theatre we went to this great little joint in Victoria Park called “TLMP” or “That Little Mexican Place”. We had the most amazing dip ever. It was called queso fundido. Or melted cheese dip. So freaking good. Not so good for the diet though. We also had guacamole made fresh at our table. Yummo and so fresh it seemed to counteract the cheese one or lets just pretend it did. Highly recommend this place. It is BYO and apparently you can even take your tequila. Do book though as it is small (seats 20) and appears to be quite popular. Oh and there are lots of gluten free stuff. The corn chips (gluten free) are AMAZING. We are going back post haste just to have dip and dessert. We had to miss out on dessert that night though a. because we were both full to the brim and b. because we were running late to the show….

Programme sneakily purchased for me by L. Thanks mum :-)

In 2002, when I was an aspiring actor and in year 12, my drama class went on a drama trip to Melbourne. We saw Mamma Mia its opening night. We saw John Wood and Rachel Griffiths and I am sure others but this was 8 years ago so I can’t remember. Certain members of my group may have yelled and waved across the streets of Melbourne at midnight “Rachel, Rachel Griffiths we love you, Woo”, but I promise I was not one of them... maybe. Anywho, at 16 I did not love Mamma Mia the musical. It was light hearted and fun but I only knew a few of ABBA’s songs and from our nose bleed seats, the view was not that great. My memory is that I was not impressed by the storyline or dialogue. Eg “Oh, no this place is falling down around me. Where am I going to get the money to fix it up?..... “I work all night, I work all day to pay the bills I have to pa-ay”. Still I did stand and dance at the end and then I yelled at Rachel Griffiths (oops, no I didn’t).

Then the movie came out and I didn’t go to the cinema to see it. Then my mum and her girls organised a girls night to watch it together, costumes and incontinence inducing mattress jumping inclusive, so mum bought the DVD. We sat and watched the whole thing that day, then again with the karaoke version and then with the commentary. I was a little hooked. Since this time I have been obsessed. I have seen the movie a million times and have both the Broadway and movie soundtracks. How could I not be won over? Meryl and Colin in the same movie.

So when I heard Mamma Mia was going to be in Perth, I knew I had to go. And I thought it was great. The set was simple but affective. Just a few Greek style walls that were moved about into different configurations depending on the scene. I had a little trouble hearing some of Donna's lyrics but I think she was having mic problems and it appeared fixed by the second half. The only criticism would be that the costumes that gave Sophie were awful. The actress is a petite little thing but she looked frumpy in almost everything they put her in. Not that I expected her to walk around in a bathing suit like Sophie does in the movie (and admittedly I find this a little strange) but still they could have done a little better.

The most annoying thing of the night though was the people cheering when songs started (like they didn't know they were coming) and the singing along. SPOILER... During the wedding scene, when Sam is proposing to Donna and Donna pauses before singing "I do, I do, I do, I do, I do-oo", people started singing before Donna did. I was throughly annoyed. I may have yelled "Shut-up" and sunk into my chair. I may have not. Where is the respect for the actors people?

This was one of my favourite scenes. The first after intermission. Sorry about crappy flash-back, my camera and I are having issues.

As I am a firm believer in getting dressed for the theatre. Note little girls who sat next to us - tights, tees and thongs are not appropriate attire. This is what I wore. Reenacted the day after as I had to get my good clothes off asap when I got home to avoid dog exposure.

I love the detail of this dress and the contrasting patterns.

So all in all was a great birthday. Oh and I am seeing it again with mum. Promise to post again soon :-)

Toki by Tony

I may also have bought myself these boots as a birthday present  (that was the excuse I told myself about the red ones). But when Tony Bianco are having a sale and I can use my 30% Birthday code on top, how am I meant to resist.

Since starting this "new" job, my shoe collection has seriously grown tenfold. The Boss and her daughter have THE MOST AMAZING shoe collections. I should try and snap pictures for you and do a week in retrospect. I may have been a little influenced just a little by them. But as they say, shoes fit and look good no matter what size you are. Ok so I may actually be a whole shoe size smaller when I am thin, but hey, lets not think about that. Hmm, I want to watch "In Her Shoes" now.

Though I must say, the book is better. Although I am excited for when Good in Bed gets made.. if it ever does. The whole losing excessive amounts of weight may pose a challenge, I don't want them to use a thin actress in a fat suit. Luckily I don't think Jenny would go for that either. Maybe Brooke Elliot? Have you seen Drop Dead Diva? If not, watch it. It is brilliant.

I recently saw someone do a post on the shoes they have purchased in the last six months. I think if I did this, I would give myself a heart attack. I never buy anything full price though... I promise. I might just need those tan clogs Sportsgirl has brought out though. But for another forty bucks I could get some tan Funkis.... Oh decisions decisions.

Hmm... did I use bought and brought correctly? Oh well, whatever if I haven't. Drugs have gone to head and I can't think anymore...

See ya later

What am I wearing today? This little Charlie Brown number is what I got on. T'was an Ebay buy. As were the RMK heels. I converted the black version of these babies for a long time but couldn’t bring myself to pay the $180 price tag. Then one day, I stumbled across these olive ones for $10. BARGAIN. They are actually very comfortable now I have lost some weight so they have had a few outings in the last few weeks.

These thick tights are a little shiny.

I also had a little surprise waiting for me when I got home last night. This High Society Dress by Ladakh from Freez. I only ordered it on Monday so YAY for fast shipping and great service. It’s a little transparent but nothing a good girdle and nude bra wouldn’t solve. Not sure how black tights will go under it (which is how I plan to style it mainly) but I should be able to counteract with a black slip.

I was not going to buy it. I loved it but I was going to wait and see If I was still thinking about it in a few days time (like every girl should). Then I befriended Freez on facebook (I thought there would be discount codes but alas). Then a girl I don’t know posted on Freez’s wall how she had bought the dress. Then I looked at it again and noticed they only had 3 left in stock. Then I knew, I HAD to have it. Now I see there are at least 9 in stock (go me).

It’s an okay dress I guess.

This is how I am going to style it. This all depends on me actually have a social life and having somewhere to go to wear it like this. I have a SATC fundraiser next weekend so maybe then. It will probably just sit in my closet looking pretty like most of my casual dresses that I can’t wear to work and that get pushed aside in my early morning weekend (I am talking like 10am here!) stumble out of bed grab some jeans and that tee that I don’t think is too smelly to wear out yet dressing rituals.

Ok, I cunningly manipulated my parents into giving me their old one
